Museum Replicas is any history lovers dream, so going there was kind of heaven for me.
We went last Friday and I added a Scottish dirk to my weapons collection. A dirk is a Scottish fighting knife. This is the Windlass Early Scottish Dirk. This type is a direct descendent of a medieval ballock dagger. This was for use alone, or with a shield and claymore (a two-edged broad sword used by Scottish Highlanders), or a basket-hilt claymore. This dirk has a blade length of 14 and 7/8th inches, with an overall length of 21 inches. It has a weight of 1 pound. This particular dirk was most likely in use in the 1550’s.
